Combining state of the art resin casting technology with old world craftsmanship, this new line was designed and developed by legendary automobile designer in real and miniature Raffi Minasian for Automodello.
Raffi's famous 1:24 scale masterpiece - the Duesenberg Coupe Simone has been considered by many to be one of the most beautiful scale models ever designed and crafted. What better car to launch this new collection after the inaugural release of the 1938 Phantom Corsair in February 2012. This model continues a collection that features some of the most elegant and revolutionary automobile designs of the twentieth century.
Hand Painted automotive quality paint ensuring an enduring finish. The paint and trim are polished by hand resulting in an absolutely gorgeous show-winning finish. Interior materials are textured to accurate scale. Interior gauges are highly detailed. Carpeting is flocked to scale. Excellent fit on all eams. Raised chrome foil used on all emblems and lettering. Tail light lenses are replicated with tinted red lenses. World class finish throughout. Closed resin model (no openning hood), however, removable roof panel to better view interior and rolling wheels.
Hispano-Suiza of Spain was one of the great European marques. Marc Birkigt, a Swiss engineer, and Damian Mateu, a Swiss banker, founded the company in 1904. Birkigt's first designs resembled race-abouts powered by 3.0 and 4.5 liter, inline-4 engines. The sporting nature of Hispano-Suiza attracted King Alfonso who bought more than 30 cars during production.
During the first World War, Hispano-Suiza manufactured V8 aircraft engines for planes such as the Spad VIII. Enduring success from this engine meant that Hispano-Suiza would never leave the aircraft industry as aircraft production eventually took over automobile production, which ceased in 1936.
The first car to benefit from Hispano-Suiza's aeronautical experience was the H6. It was manfactured in three different Factories, most being built in a France. All versions of the H6 featured a light-alloy, inline-6 housed in a simple ladder chassis. Since no H6s were completed in France, all received bodies from some of the finest carrossiers in the area.
The Dubonnet Xenia Coupe
This striking car, sometimes simply called the Dubonnet Xenia, was made to showoff Andre Dubonnet's independent suspension. He used a Hispano Suiza H6C chassis and modified it to include his enclosed coil spring suspension. This suspension was quite successful and Andre sold the patent rights to Alfa Romeo, GM, Fiat, and Delahaye.
Dubonnet had his Xenia Chassis bodied by Jaques Saoutchik. The result was an avante-garde interpretation of the teardrop, was different from any other motorcar. Highlights of the design include a parallel door system and an aviation-themed interior.
This one-off Hispano-Suiza was commissioned by Andre Dubonnet in 1937 to showcase his company's latest suspension development. Andre Dubonnet was an accomplished aviator and racing driver. The Dubonnet family had amassed a fortune from the aperitifs and cognacs that continue to bear the family name.
The streamlined, aircraft inspired styling was done by aerodynamics expert Jean Andreau and Saoutchik crafted the body on a modified Hispano-Suiza H6C chassis.
Recently the Xenia Coupe has been touring the auto shows and museums thanks to owner Charles Morse. He won the Most Elegant Closed Car award at the 2000 Pebble Beach Concours. The car is now part of the Mullin Museum collection.
